Oh sweet Julie…
Julie is a beautiful 15 month old English Bull Terrier x Lurcher who was surrendered to us several months ago with her brother George. Both puppies were very neglected and had been kept isolated in a shed for the first 7 months or so of their short lives. George was the much more confident of the two and has been lucky enough to find himself an amazing forever home.
While the puppies had the same upbringing, the effects from their entire critical socialization period spent alone, with limited human contact and no exposure to the outside world had a much more severe affect on Julie. She is distrustful of new people and struggles to cope with loud noises or new stimuli. As sad as this is to see in a young dog (or any dog), it’s the harsh reality of a lack of exposure and socialization.
Julie is looking for a very experienced and understanding owner with no children or other pets who will be willing to work with her at her own pace and allow her to blossom. With the understanding that initially, she will not be eager to interact, she won’t climb into your lap for cuddles on her first meeting, and she won’t trust immediately. She will need to be carefully managed to set her up for success and to learn how to be a pet, along with all basic training she should have received when she was a puppy.
Julie is not a straightforward dog, but she is just as deserving of a loving home and family as the next dog, after all she didn’t choose the circumstances she was born into. While the journey won’t necessarily be short, we have no doubt she will be a hugely rewarding dog for someone who will give her the time and low pressure environment for her to come out of her shell at a comfortable rate.
If you think you can offer our special Julie this golden opportunity, send us an email to ashlm@eircom.net with some details about your home/lifestyle and including your phone number.
We know that it won’t be easy to find the perfect someone, but we won’t give up on our Julie.

Meet happy boy Rocky.
Our beautiful boy has been with us for nearly 5 years now. Rocky is 7 years old boxer cross who had not much luck in life. He was surrendered to us as a young boy as he didn’t like people in uniforms. Rocky is a strong boy, he absolutely adores meeting new people and going for walkies. He absolutely adores spending time with volunteers too.
Rocky is looking for a very experienced home with no other animals and children. His tail never stops wagging and sometimes he is just a big playful pupply but we just want to make sure he gets the best possible chance.
Why not to get in touch if you would love to meet him? What’s not to love?

We called him Wallace for now..

About three and a half weeks ago somebody rang to ask could Remi collect their Chihuahua as she had developed a cyst on her belly and the mother had thrown her out into the garden because she couldn’t look at her anymore. Remi went and rang home to say that he was taking her straight to the vet as it didn’t look well.
She underwent surgery that very afternoon, 2 vets operated on her for over 2 hours. Initially they weren’t sure what they were looking at. Maggie had a hernia and they found a mumified pup that had gone through the hernia and had somehow become stuck there. She was in the vets for a number of days, when she came home she just wouldn’t eat for us so the next day she went back to the vet and back onto a drip. 3 days later she came home after she had eaten some chicken and some ham in the vets.
We asked her former owner what food she would be used to as she still had very little apetite. A bit of ham, or chicken or cheese was the reply. He also told us that it was about 6 months ago that she had pups.
We are delighted that our little Princess is eating dog food now, of course she still likes her chicken on top. She is doing really well. One of our staff gave her a nice shampoo and removed her knots and she looks so much better.
She is 4.5 years old and a very sweet girl and very pretty too. These are difficult times as we have now been closed for over 6 weeks, which means no re-homing, no re-homing donations and no fundraising events either. Yet our expenditure hasn’t changed much. Our vet bill is steadily growing and we would really appreciate a little help with that.
If you wish to support our Princess you can do so in many different ways described under ‘Donate’ section.

Support Old sweetheart Layla
Layla is our beloved, old girl
She didn’t have an easy life. Found on the streets in an awful state, very neglected in the past.
Today, she is with us and we love her dearly. She is so grateful for a warm bed and nice food.
About 2 months ago Layla was sitting and seemed unable to get up. Her hind legs just weren’t working. After visits to different vets it became clear she was too old to have the spinal surgery needed to restore her mobility.
We realised how limited her options are but we didn’t want to give up on our girl without a fight.
Layla has been attending weekly hydrotherapy and acupuncture sessions for the last 2 months. We can see the results.
This adds e75 weekly to our growing vet bill.
We have no option but to ask for your help
As you can imagine in rescue our funds are never sufficient and we really need your support to help get our girl. Please if you can spare anything at all consider donating to our go fund me appeal. We promise loads of updates on her progress.

She is estimated to be a Springer x lab, but like many of the best things in life, she’s a bit of a mystery. She’s only Springer sized (although the photo makes her look bigger)
She is 4 years old and looks and feels as young as can be. She’s a bright little lady and loves to show off her skills playing with and catching a ball, but after a game of fetch, she also loves some nice laid back chill time (ideally on a sofa or soft bed).
She’s not been too bothered by the cats she’s met in ash and is good with other dogs provided that they aren’t overly pushy, overall she’s a dream to be around.
If you think you might be tempted by this picture perfect poster pup (how could you not be?) Please get in touch

Cher
Some of you may have already seen this gorgeous girl on our page. But for those who haven’t, meet Cher.
Cher came to us a while ago as her owner had sadly died, however she was very overwhelmed by the change of circumstances so we allowed her some time to settle here in Ash before putting her up for rehoming.
She is a 4 year old large collie cross of some description. She adores playing ball and would chase a toy for hours given the chance.
Due to her large and somewhat excitable nature, a home with no small children would be best suited to Cher as she could unintentionally knock small children over.
She was living with other dogs with no issues before she came to ash, however, she is not good with cats.
We are open every day from 2 till 5 except Fridays if you’d like to come meet Cher. Could she be the missing piece from your heart and home?

Emergency Rescue of 74 dogs
On November 13th we received a call from a gentleman who was in a situation that he desperately needed help with. In his care he had 70 dogs.
This gentleman out of the kindness in his heart, a few years ago began to take in stray, sick, dumped and unwanted dogs and did his best to care for them. Over time his numbers increased, so too did the cost of looking after them and he was no longer able to afford to get them neutered, vaccinated etc. He got to the point where he struggled to afford to feed them and his call to us was a cry for help for the sake of his animals.
Immediately. we began to transport the dogs from this man’s premises to ours. In total 50 dogs came to us the next day, some puppies among them, some heavily pregnant and one who has given birth to 5 puppies since she arrived. 4 elderly dogs have gone to foster with a volunteer and the next day we collected the remainder.
We are packed to capacity. The cost of this mammoth rescue is colossal.
These dogs were all treated for fleas, wormed and many treated for mange.
All dogs have been neutered/ spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.
We know some people won’t understand this situation but the man in question genuinely did his best for his animals.
The mere fact he had 70 dogs is a reflection of the pressure people in rescue feel to push themselves to the limit to help animals in need.

return to home pageMalcolm
Meet our happiest Malcolm.
Malcolm is about 2 years old pitbull terrier who has been found straying and ended up in the safety of Ash.
Malcolm is the most sweet boy. He is so affectionate and adores people. He is extremely friendly and whoever meets him, falls in love. He is such a great mannered boy. He loves his sleep and is very chilled.
Malcolm is great on the lead but he can be strong at times, especially when he leaves his pen. After a few minutes of walkies he walks perfectly.
We are looking for a five star adult only, experienced home for our Malcolm. A home with no other pets to give him the best chance possible. A home which can offer him lots of love and a happy place to relax and chill. We know that Malcolm will make someone very happy. We can guarantee that a person who will come especially for him, will fall in love with this boy from the first sight.
Just look at this smile!

Meet our sweet Teddy Bear.
Teddy is 6 years old German Shepherd cross who has been surrendered to us due to change in circumstances. Teddy was adopted from Ash when he was a puppy but was returned to us after 2 years.
Teddy Bear is a striking looking boy. He is freindly and happy chap who is spending bet time of his life in a rescue rather than a home. Teddy is a big boy and loves walkies. He is a little nervous but adorable.
Teddy takes his time to get to know you so if you are coming to meet him please allow him that little bit of time to relax in your company and you’ll see him shine for sure.
Teddy is generally good with other dogs but after spending longer time in rescue we think that a home with no other animals and small children will be the best for Teddy. We want to make sure he gets the best possible chance to shine. A home with German Shepherds experience would be amazing.
Please come ask foe our Teddy Bear especially. He’d love that. This sweet boy really deserves a home to call his own..
