ASH Animal Rescue – Puppy Adoption & Food Drive in Bray

With the great help of Wonder Paws Bray we initiate ASH Animal Rescue – Puppy Adoption & Food Drive.

When: LAST NIGHT IS THURSDAY 8th SEPTEMBER FROM 8-9pm!
Every Thursday from 23rd June  to 8th September 2016 from 8-9pm

    Dear Potential Adopters !
    POP ALONG to:
    – Cuddle a puppy or
    – Donate a bag of food to help feed the 100 dogs currently in the care of Ash Animal Rescue
    – or simply to have a look how puppies are getting on on their training sessions

Wonder Paws are offering each puppy adopted from our Thursday Adoption Drives a FREE 5-week puppy training course to help the puppy & their new families get the best possible start !

Socialisation is critical during their current age range and every Thursday since end of May, Ash owners Helena & Remi make the long trip to Wonder Paws Puppy School at Festina Lente Gardens, Old Connaught Avenue, Bray, Co Wicklow to bring the pups to socialisation and training classes.

Through this early intervention the puppies are learning key socialisation skills: stranger socialisation, environmental socialisation, body handling and basic training.

Wonder Paws trainers donate their time and facilities free of charge to help increase the puppies chance of adoption.

Thank you so much Wonder Paws Bray xxx

On Saturday 26th September we have so much going on for all the family including our Childrens Village, stalls with wonderful products and food to be enjoyed by all.  All that but a huge part of Saturdays event is when we will be attempting to break a WORLD RECORD by having the most people dressed as dogs in one place!  We CAN do this but not without a little help from our friends and supporters, your friends and family and as many people as you can muster on the day!!  What we need is at least 300 people who are willing to take part in the event so we can smash that world record and become a little part of world history!  The record attempt will take place from 2.30pm.  Full details are on the flyer HERE (and below)

Then on Saturday evening we will kick loose and relax with some song and dance.  Some is organised, some may be impromptu… So, if you know a good story, or can sing and play a tune – Don’t be shy and join in the merriment.

On Sunday 27th September its the big day for celebrating our lovely dogs and when we host our annual dog show and also let them stretch their legs and strut their stuff on our dog agility course thanks to the Carlow Dog Training Club Team.  With the Childrens Village, Pets Corner and the wonderful stalls there will be plenty to keep everyone amused including a Blessing of the Animals.

Both days are  guaranteed to be great days out for all the family.

All monies from the event will go directly to ASH Animal Rescue to help cover the daily costs of caring for the 100+ dogs and 40+ cats that are currently seeking forever homes.

We can’t wait and we really hope to see ya’ll there on one or both days and that you’ll spread the word where and when you can!  Thanks everyone and hey … lets try our best to smash that World Record eh!

Directions to Ducketts Grove are on the flyer and we’ve linked the Google Maps directions HERE.  Any questions please do get in touch with us on our FB page or through ash rescue@gmail.com.

Super Sunday Stop Over … Sunday 30th August from 12-5pm!

This is absolutely guaranteed to be a Super Sunday Stop over … there will be delicious cakes, soups, tea and coffee to start with (all you can eat for just €5) not to mention the amazing selection of books in every single category you can think of.  If you’re on the look out for some Vinyl LPs then this is definitely worth stopping over to investigate.  The vintage barn is sure to unleash a real treasure for those in the know – you just do not know what you might find in there …. and the very best bit is that all its all in aid of our animals in ASH!!!  We are so very grateful to Fionnuala and her friends for organising this wonderful event again this year.  It’s just NOT TO BE MISSED!!   Directions are below so you know where you’re going ….

    Directions to Knocknaboley, Co. Wicklow

    From Laragh/Glendalough:

Take the R756 from Laragh which is signposted Glendalough.   Go over the Wicklow Gap, towards Hollywood.

20.87km from Laragh, turn left onto Road L8349; this is 2nd turn on left shortly after Loughstown Bridge (a granite bridge on a sharpish left bend).

Do not take the first left after this bridge, which is marked Cul de Sac – it’s the turn about quarter mile after that.

    From Hollywood:

Take R756, 3rd right turn onto Road L8349 about 3.5miles from Hollywood going towards Glendalough.

    On L8349:

One mile down this tarred road, take the first left at cottage with blue paintwork (best to park around here if possible as it is quite narrow & limited beyond this); my house is at the end of this track, you pass a farmhouse on your left, and on through gate piers and past two modern houses, and I’m at the very end.

    Kirikee Drama Group

Kirikee Drama Group will this Friday the 3rd of April (Good Friday) present ‘The Curious Savage’ by John Patrick in Kirikee hall Wicklow. The proceeds of the night will go to ASH Rescue and St Coleman’s Hospital Rathdrum.

The play itself is a comedic play about Ethel P. Savage, a woman whose husband recently died and left her approximately ten million dollars. Contrasting the kindness and loyalty of psychiatric patients with the avarice and vanity of ‘respectable’ public figures, it calls into question conventional definitions of sanity while also lampooning celebrity culture.

So please consider coming along and showing your support.

    DIRECTIONS HERE

Book sale & Wicklow welcome …

We’re delighted and thrilled to hear that our friend Fionnuala Dunne is organising another event this year to help us help the animals in our care.  Based on last years event this is definitely not to be missed as Fionnuala (with a little help from her amazing friends) hosts not only a top of the range book sale (with loads of BRAND NEW, RECENTLY published and older books) but also sells the most amazing home made jam, chutney and cakes that you’d ever experience.  Expect a chilled out afternoon where you’ll be welcomed in to come sit, chat and enjoy the afternoon in the heart of Wicklow and browse the amazing selection of books. There is without doubt going to be amazing value on the day!

Without doubt this is a definite “must do” if anyone is out and about in the Wicklow area next Sunday afternoon.

    Directions to Knocknaboley, Co. Wicklow:

On L8349:  One mile down this tarred road, take the first left at cottage with blue paintwork (best to park around here if possible as it is quite narrow & limited beyond this); my house is at the end of this track, you pass a farmhouse on your left, and on through gate piers and past two modern houses, and I’m at the very end.

Thanks to our Mini Marathon champs …

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Flora Womens mini marathon in support of ASH.  Thanks also to every single person who donated and supported their friends as they crossed that line for our animals!!  Without such valiant efforts and amazing support we simply could not stay afloat and continue helping so many less fortunate animals who really need our love, help, support and a little guidance in the right direction towards loving new homes.

Thanks so much everyone who contributed to our Sponsored Dog Walk

We’d like to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you who came out and supported our Annual Dog Walk on Sunday last.   We loved meeting you all, your dogs and of course a good few of our ex-ASH pats!  Brilliant!  It also importantly afforded a day out from rescue for so many of our dogs (some who are patiently waiting for homes and others who are our permanent rezzies!).  It meant such a lot to us that we had such a good turnout despite the pretty dismal weather  – we were worried!  Hard to believe that for the past two years running we had to take along sunscreen for everyone eh!   Nonetheless the event was a success and thats down to everyone who took the time out to join us with their dogs, to our volunteers on the day and to those back at base who were stretched and looked after our other animals and to everyone who raised and donated towards sponsorship for our animals!  We managed to raise just over 2,000 euro on the day.  So thanks again to every single person who made that happen.  We are also very grateful to those who donated food and newspapers on the day … special thanks to the amazingly talented lady who knitted so many super dog jumpers for sale on the day (we sold a good few on the day and will continue do so in future events)!  Fantastic stuff!  Unfortunately we don’t have very many pictures as the weather didn’t exactly allow it but we’ve posted a few here below (some pics came from those shared on our FB page – thanks guys). (Just click on the image to enlarge and use the back arrow to go back to the series) Without support from people like you we simply could not continue to do what we do but together we CAN make a difference!! Thanks so much everyone!

Wonder Paws Mega Dog Show: an update

What a great day we had meeting a good few ex-ASH dogs (and their canine pals) with their new families at the Wonder Paws Mega Dog Show at Festina Lente on Bank Holiday Monday.  It was an honour to be invited to be part of it all and a total pleasure taking part. It was great to meet everyone especially some of our ex ASH dogs and their lovely families (including and to name but a few Coco, Travis, Inky, Annie, Buster, Taylor, Beauty, Healy, Sheeva, Annie, Lulu and Leeroy). It was wonderful meeting some sponsors and friends of ASH too and also put faces to a few names!  Thanks a million everyone for coming along and thanks so much to Wonder Paws for inviting us.  We really enjoyed our day as did everyone we spoke to!  We hope it was a great success for you too – it certainly was a great turn out!  Well done!  Anyhooo … here are a few pics of the day … hope you enjoy them (click on the image for a full view and then choose the back arrow to go back)

    2014 Women’s Mini-Marathon 2 June 2014

Thanks so much to all the women who have already signed up to “run for rescue” … we’re all so grateful for your support!  We’d all like to wish you all the very best of luck on your run – if its on TV on the day we’ll be sure to have it on in the living room (at the very least a good few of our permanent resident dogs (and cats) will get to watch it and cheer you on and over that line!!)

If you’ve already registered and are still not sure if you’d like to run for any particular charity or indeed which particular cause  … well … we’d be honoured and thrilled to bits if you’d consider running for our rescue animals and raising a few euro for the animals in our care.  It really would mean such a lot to our animals, to all our volunteers and everyone here in ASH to know that you might consider crossing that line and running for rescue.

This year we’re sponsored by Petmania who made it easier than ever to sign up to run for our animals. So if you’ve already registered all you have to do is sign up to run for ASH through the Petmania website or simply click the link HERE , fill in your details and select ASH as your chosen charity.

Our animals really need and rely on us … we really need and rely on YOU!  TOGETHER WE CAN REALLY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Our Sponsored Walk Sunday 11th May in Laragh

We have booked Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh for our sponsored dog walk and fundraiser on Sunday 11th May 2014. We’re kicking off at 2.00pm (If you have booked an ASH dog you might come about 15 minutes earlier).

This is one of the biggest events we have every year to try to raise funds to keep us going.  We hope that everyone coming along can raise some sponsorship for the walk.  If you don’t have a dog to take and sponsor/donate on the day you can always book one of our permanent residents and also a few other dogs in ASH who are holding out for a new home (who are all hoping for a seat on “the bus” to the event!).

We’re so looking forward to meeting all our friends and their doggies.  This day is about the dogs – homed, rescued or otherwise – all of whom will come together to help their fellow canine friends in ASH (who really need their help and support). It’s a great day out for all to socialise and mix and also a bit of fun for all of the family too.

It’s without doubt the best day of the year for a few of our permanent residents (who are really looking forward to be booked “personally” for the walk) and also some dogs who are anxiously and patiently awaiting homes and would love to be part of the day out.  It’s also a huge chance for them to get out there and show everyone what they have to offer and enjoy strutting their stuff with people and humans alike.

You can help raise funds by opening a fundraising page on MyCharity.ie for our Sponsored dogwalk by clicking on this link (and going to our walk on the list of events) Alternatively you can print a  Sponsorship Form 2014 here and directions are below.

Afterwards we will be having a raffle, tea n coffee and chats. If you’d like to ask about booking any ASH dogs please contact us here on ashlm@eircom.net or through ashrescue@gmail.com.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING ALL OUR FRIENDS ON THE DAY!!

Wonder Paws Mega Dog Show …

We’re delighted to have been invited along as a charity partner at the Wonder Paws upcoming MEGA DOG SHOW on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May.  It’s going to be held in Wonder Paws HQ at Festina Lente in Bray (see directions HERE).

We’ll have a stand at the event where some of our volunteers will be there to chat about adopting a rescue dog, volunteering, sponsorship and anything else you’d like to chat about.   We’ll be bringing along sponsorship cards for our annual event and Sponsored Dog Walk coming up on 11th May 2014.

Wonder Paws are also hosting a very special “ASH dogs reunion” at 1pm on the day – how cool is that!! It would be amazing to see how many of our ex-pats are getting along these days and get a few shots for all our FB friends to see too – not to mention watch them proudly as all the rescue dogs strut their stuff at the “Best Rescue Dog” show class where the winner will receive a FREE 5 week basic obedience course with Wonder Paws at Festina Lente plus 5 runner up prizes of a FREE Fun Agility session. There’s loads going on on the day and its guaranteed to be a great day out for all the family and dog(s) alike. Hope to see y’all there!

Sunday 11th May … a date for your diaries …

This year the date for our sponsored dog walk has been set for Sunday the 11th of May at 2.00pm.  It will be held in the beautiful Brockagh Resource Centre Glendalough Co. Wicklow.  It’s always been an amazing day out for everyone family and dogs alike and we’d love to see as many of our friends, volunteers, sponsors and supporters join us on the day.   Try to keep the date free for one of our favourite annual events out.  This day gives our dogs permanent and “just stoppin” alike share a fab day out with our friends.  It’s the one day of the year that sponsors can book and take one of our permanent dogs out for more than just a walk nearby.  It’s also a great chance for a few our dogs hoping for a home to shine and strut their stuff and show everyone what they can offer.  Some of our our permanent ressies are still chatting about their day out last year!  We’ll keep you posted on all the goings on here and through our FB page!  Put the date in your diary for now!

Street collection this Saturday 9th November … can you help?

We are looking for an few extra pairs of hands this Saturday at our street collection in Grafton Street, Dublin.  We have a permit for a street collection and could really do with a few volunteers to help us out.  If you think you can spare even a couple of hours please pop Gwen (one of our dedicated volunteers) an email on gwenhemp@hotmail.com.  If you can’t volunteer but find yourself in the area please come over and say hi to our volunteers – standing on the street collecting all day is hard work – even a little hi helps a lot and goes a long way!  Thanks guys!

    5k Remembrance Run

We would be so thrilled if some of our friends and supporters would consider running the 5k Remembrance run which takes place on the 10th of November in the Phoenix Park.

The event welcomes walkers, joggers and runners and has a special remembrance theme- remembrance of friends or family passed. Maybe you would consider running it in memory of a family member that was an animal lover or even running in memory of a passed pet.

Full details can be found on their website
    http://remembrancerun.ie/wp/.

As always thank you for your support.

Our very own Leona is taking a huge leap from keeping her feet on the ground through hard graft and tough work involved when caring for so many animals every single day.  She’s now taken the mad n’ crazy decision to jump from a plane and go that extra mile to help support all the animals she knows so very well and helps every single day.  We’d really appreciate any support you can give Leona on her big jump which is next Saturday 26th October 2013!  Leona has set up a MyCharity page and you can access that below or by clicking on the pic above.  All the animals in ASH are barking, miaowing, tweeting, neighing and flapping for you on Saturday and all the humans in ASH will be thinking of you on the day too – big time!!!  Thanks so much Leona – This is well and truly above and beyond (literally!!) GO LEONA!!!

Fun Dog Show … thank you for your support!

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who came out to support the Dog Show in aid of ASH Animal Rescue today in Laragh. We couldn’t have hoped for a better day.  It was fabulous to see so many people come out and support the event and our animals. We were quite overwhelmed to say the least!  We couldn’t possibly remember all the little Kenny’s, Herbies, Axel’s, Millies, Dexters and Manny’s, all of whom were so well behaved throughout the event.  We’ve included a few pics of the day which we hope you might enjoy.   A big thanks to Michelle and her helpers (who still somehow managed to put up two gazebos despite a few blustery patches while setting up) and also to everyone in Brockagh Resource Centre.  We hope everyone who came had a bit of craic and their dogs enjoyed mixing with the so many others both big and small.  Your attendance and support managed to raise a staggering €1,000 for our animals!!!  AMAZING!  We simply can’t tell you how much that will mean to all many other dogs and animals back in ASH.  Our volunteers and Remi really enjoyed meeting you and all of your lovely four legged friends.  Every single one of the dogs (and owners) are winners in our minds!   Thanks again everyone!

Women’s World Exhibition in the RDS

Ash took part in the Women’s World Exhibition in the RDS where thousands of ladies, often with their families, came to collect their start numbers for the Flora Mini Marathon. We raised just under A Thousand Euro for the animals.

Thank you to all the people who supported us there. Big Hug to all the volunteers who made it happen by either helping out in Ash or in the RDS. Also a big Thank you to Kathryn Crofton who joined us on Saturday and Sunday, promoting her great book ‘Circles in the Sand’ about a rescue dog but also about the people who shared this dog’s life at different stages. Seven different ‘animal groups’ benefit from the sales of this book. Kathryn you were a rock.

We also held a raffle and here is the number of the winning ticket: 74 Sorry for those who didn’t win, but thank you for your support and please remember it is the animals who are the winners.
